Birth of Mary (Buttlar)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Roman Catholic parish church of the Birth of Mary is in Buttlar in the Wartburg district in West Thuringia . She belongs to the dean's office Hünfeld-Geisa .

history

After the fire in the previous church, the current building was built between 1872 and 1876 in a neo-Romanesque style. At that time the parish of Buttlar also looked after the Catholic faithful in Wenigentaft , Bermbach and Vacha , so that the church building was comparatively large. The inventory was acquired from other churches; The baroque high altar comes from the collegiate church of St. John the Baptist in Amöneburg, the side altars St. Mary and St. Joseph from the nuns church in Fulda, as well as the baroque pulpit.

In 1903 the church was rebuilt: sacristies were bricked up on both sides in the choir area and the apse wall was moved into the choir room.

Furnishing

The central image of the high altar , carved in half-relief, shows Jesus' baptism in the Jordan. Above in the oval is the decapitation of John the Baptist . The standing figures of the apostles Peter and Paul are on both sides of the altarpiece. To the side of the upper picture are further prophetic figures. The tabernacle is located in the cafeteria .

The organ dates from 1874 and was built by the Tabarz organ builder Guido Knauf . Since November 2008 it has been restored by the Moritzburg organ building workshop Rühle .
