The Maria Magdalenen Church is a church building in Reinbek in the Stormarn district . The neo-Gothic hall church with entrance tower and polygonal apse was built from 1900 according to plans by the Hamburg architect Hugo Groothoff .

history

Reinbek originally belonged to the Steinbek parish , the services of which were occasionally held in the chapel of Reinbek Castle . When the castle was auctioned by the Prussian tax authorities in 1874, the communities of Reinbek, Schönningstedt , Ohe , Glinde and Wentorf founded a church building association. In 1894 Reinbek became an independent parish.

Building

The foundation stone for the construction of the oldest church in Reinbek was laid on June 10, 1900. It was built by master mason Carl Ohl from Reinbek according to the plans of the architect Hugo Groothoff, who had already planned the similar Christ Church in Pinneberg in 1894/95 . The Reinbeker Church was consecrated on July 21, 1901 after a construction period of 14 months. In 1969 the church interior was redesigned and renamed the Maria Magdalenen Church , based on the monastery in Reinbek, which existed until 1529 , from whose monastery church the two free-standing granite columns probably originate. Since 1992 the church, including the historical furnishings, has been a registered cultural monument.
