Location of Schönningstedt in Reinbek

Schönningstedt is a district of the city of Reinbek in the Schleswig-Holstein district of Stormarn .

history

The municipality, which was independent until 1974, carried this coat of arms with the local windmill

With the first documentary mention in 1224 under the name Sconingstede it is the oldest of today's districts of Reinbek. While the village of Schönningstedt was added to the Reinbek office as early as 1528 , after a changing allocation and the status of an office- free municipality from 1947, it was incorporated into the city of Reinbek, which became effective on January 1, 1974. Previously, the municipality with the districts Schönningstedt, Ohe and Neuschönningstedt had an independent administration .

For a long time Schönningstedt received the typical structure of a farming village. In 1886, the Schönningstedter Mühle, the most striking building in the town, was built, which burned down in 1993 and was restored true to the original. The Schönningstedt volunteer fire department was founded in 1897.

A development of the Krabbenkamps between Aumühle and Wohltorf as a further district, promoted by the community since 1947 , only came about four years after the loss of independence.

In 1957, the municipal council decided to have Schönningstedt with the districts Neuschönningstedt and Ohe connected to the Hamburg water network. The cost of this was estimated at 700,000 marks. The drinking water comes from a deep well in Glinde.

The denser settlement of residential houses began around 1960 with the construction of a residential area between Salteich and Oher Strasse by the Sachsenwald non-profit building cooperative . From 2003, the northern Schönningstedt was expanded by over 150 residential buildings. The Reinbeck district is still almost entirely surrounded by agricultural land.

Schönningstedt has a kindergarten and a primary school. The Protestant church has been in the middle of the village since the northern expansion of the village. Since the summer of 2007 there has been its own shopping center in Schönningstedt.

politics

The community was first led by a farmer's bailiff and later by a mayor. In 1964, the municipal representatives decided to fill the office of mayor full-time in future. The first and only full-time mayor was Helmut Schneuer. The bailiff from Bad Oldesloe , born in 1920, had to relocate to Schönningstedt to take over the office of mayor. With the incorporation to Reinbek his office ceased. Schneuer died in Bad Oldesloe in 2016.
