Maria Albrecht

Maria Albrecht , b. Maria Wenzel , (born February 14, 1850 in Eggebrechtsmühle , Schlochau district , † July 16, 1923 in Görlitz ) was a German writer . She published under the pseudonym Maria Hellmuth .

Life

Albrecht was born as one of six children to a landowner in West Prussia . She lost her father at the age of five, after which she moved with her mother and siblings to a larger town in West Prussia. The wish to become a teacher was not fulfilled because Albrecht married a businessman when he was young. She went to Berlin with him, their daughter died at the age of 13. In 1892 Albrecht turned to writing, and from 1899 until her death she lived in Görlitz.
