Maria Boehm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maria Böhm is an Austrian Righteous Among the Nations .

Life

During the Second World War, Böhm lived in Meidling , Vienna's 12th district , at Theergasse 12, Stiege 5 in Vienna . Starting in May 1942, she and Franziska Cechal and Anna Kuchar successfully hid the Jewish tailor Rosalia Istas, who was threatened with deportation, from the Gestapo . Böhm temporarily made her own apartment available for a short time so that Rosalia Istas could find shelter there, in order to save her from the Gestapo. This was done in order to relieve the other helpers Cechal and Kucher and not to unnecessarily endanger them even more. Böhm acted out of humanity, knowing that Rosalia Istas was destitute, and without expecting anything in return.

On December 25, 1984, together with Cechal and Kuchar, she was awarded the title Righteous Among the Nations by the Israeli Yad Vashem Memorial .
