Maria Belpaire

Maria Elisabeth Hyazinthe Belpaire (born January 31, 1853 in Antwerp , † June 9, 1948 there ) was a Flemish writer.

In addition to poetry and short stories , Belpaire also wrote music and literary essays . She was a mentor and patron of the Dietsche Warande & Belfort magazine , and from 1914 to 1918 head of the De Belgische Standaard newspaper in De Panne . She founded the Belfort Institute, a model school for girls, the Catholic Flemish University for Women (1919) and the Constance Teichmann Women's Association (1910).

Belpaire endeavored to promote and support Catholic Flanders. The Catholic University of Leuven awarded her the Dr. hc awarded.
