Maria Benedita Câmara de Bormann (born November 25, 1853 in Porto Alegre , † July 23, 1895 in Rio de Janeiro ; pseudonym : Délia ) was a Brazilian writer and journalist .

Life

Bormann grew up in a wealthy family; at the age of ten she moved with her family to Rio de Janeiro . She learned French and English and studied the literature of her time. She painted, played the piano and sang mezzo-soprano . In 1872 she married José Bernardino Bormann , a maternal uncle who, a veteran of the Paraguay War , became Minister of War in 1909 and was active as a writer.

She wrote chronicles , feature articles and short stories for Rio de Janeiro's magazines such as O Sorriso and O Cruzeiro . She also worked with the Gazeta da Tarde by José do Patrocínio , with the Gazeta de Notícias by Ferreira Araújo and with O País . She was known for her ironic writing style.

In July 1895 Maria Benedita Bormann died of a stomach ulcer.
