Maria Bonafede (born June 8, 1954 in Milan ) is a pastor of the Evangelical Waldensian Church in Italy.

Bonafede grew up in a non-denominational family in Milan. Her father was a member of the Roman Catholic Church and her mother was a Waldensian .

After attending the Liceo , Bonafede studied literature and philosophy at the University of Milan and Protestant theology at the Waldensian faculty in Rome. Her husband, Daniele Garrone, is an Old Testament lecturer at this faculty.

In 1985 Maria Bonafede was ordained as a pastor . After working in the Methodist congregation in Milan and Novara from 1984 to 1986 , she worked in the Waldensian Church in Brescia until 1988 , after which she was pastor of the Waldensian Church in Piazza Cavour in Rome until 2003 . One year vacancy representation at the Methodist Church in Rome (Via XX Settembre) followed.

Maria Bonafede was vice- moderator from 2000 to 2005, from 2005 to 2012 moderator of the Tavola Valdese , the governing body of the Waldensian Church, and thus also the first representative of this church to the public. She was the first woman to be elected to this office.

Maria Bonafede has been pastor of the Waldensian Church in Turin since 2013 .
