Maria Cälina from the Presentation

Maria Cälina from the representation OSCI (civil: Jeanne Germaine Castang ) (born May 23, 1878 in Nojals-et-Clotte , Dordogne , † May 30, 1897 in Talence ) was a French nun . She is venerated as a blessed in the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Jeanne Germaine Castang came from an impoverished family. When she was four years old, she developed polio . Even so, she took care of her tuberculosis brother and went begging. She was admitted to a boarding school run by the Nazareth sisters. There she felt drawn to the religious order. After the death of her mother and brother, she joined the Poor Clares. On November 21, 1896, she was clothed and took the religious name Maria Cälina from the representation . However, the novice soon fell ill with tuberculosis. After making her solemn profession in articulo mortis on her deathbed, she died at the age of 19 on May 30, 1897.

Maria Cälina of the Representation was beatified on September 16, 2007 in Bordeaux . Her feast day in the liturgy is May 30th .
