Maria Dolors Miró

Maria Dolors Miró Juncosa (born July 17, 1930 in Barcelona , † December 26, 2004 in Palma ) was a Spanish art patron and honorary chairwoman of the Miró Foundations.

Maria Dolors Miró Juncosa was the only daughter of the Catalan painter Joan Miró (1893-1983). It comes from the artist's marriage to Pilar Juncosa Iglesias (1904–1995) in October 1929 .

She had two sons with David Fernández (1926–1964): David (1955–1991, buried in the Montjuïc cemetery in Barcelona next to their grandparents) and Emilio (1958–2012).

Miró Juncosa was known far beyond Spain for her specialist knowledge. During her life she devoted herself to her father's work in Barcelona and Palma. In 1981 Joan Miró founded his foundationFundació Pilar i Joan Miró a Mallorca ”. After the death of her mother in 1995, Maria Dolors Miró Juncosa took over the honorary chairmanship of this foundation. It actively promoted young Spanish artists by providing them with an art center with an international focus as part of the foundation. Today the center is a popular meeting place for all writers, artists and musicians.

Maria Dolors Miró Juncosa was very much like her father in her nature. Like him, she was very reserved. At the end of December 2004 she died of a heart attack in Palma de Mallorca at the age of 74 . A few days earlier she had undergone hip surgery after a fall. She was buried at the side of Joan Miró and her mother Pilar Juncosa in the Montjuïc cemetery in Barcelona.
