According to legend, Müller Stefan Geier, the builder, was a wealthy man during the Thirty Years' War , but had not achieved his wealth in an honest way. He cheated on his customers and formed a secret society with the devil : he shouldn't snatch a soul from the devil, instead he should bring people to him. In return, the miller received a black book with the help of which he could make Satan a servant. Should Vulture break the pact, his soul would be at the mercy of the devil.

In 1640 the miller's son found the black book. He used it ignorantly and was attacked by birds. The miller saved his son, but tore a soul from the devil. He had broken the pact and in a year he should belong to the devil himself. The miller was desperate and wandered about in the woods. There he came across a hermit whose advice he finally followed. He had returned his unjust property and had a chapel built in honor of Mary as a refuge for sinners from his lawfully acquired property next to his mill . On the night in question he prayed in the chapel while Satan and Mary fought for him outside. The devil wanted to push the church into the Dettenbach, which runs there, but Maria held it with her hands. Geier and his descendants are believed to have sponsored several services, and their righteous fortune continued long after their deaths. The five indentations above the church entrance, which can still be seen today and into which the five fingers of a hand fit, would testify to this occurrence.

Inscription above the chapel entrance

Praise God Almighty. Dan the highly praised Junckhfrawen and Mother of God Maria / has to honor these capelln according to the shape and shape of the old saints, capellas softened by God from our loved ones / Frawen to the lonely in Schweitz with CONSENS spiritual and secular authorities and aignen free FVNDIRT and alhero build ANNO / CHRIST 1641

The hand-shaped depressions in the stone probably come from broken pebble-like deposits. The indentations presumably existed before the inscriptions, as the characters evade them.
