Maria Mihaela "Mimi" Ficzay (born November 8, 1991 in Ocna Șugatag , Maramureş district ) is a Romanian soccer player . The central defender is under contract with CFF Olimpia Cluj in Liga 1 .

Career

Ficzay began her athletic career at the age of ten with athletics and was coached by her uncle Nelu Hotea. On his advice, she joined the football team of the fourth division Tisa Sighet in 2006 , where she was allowed to play with the male youth. After a few months in the club she was discovered during a tournament in Sighetu Marmației and Mirel Albon , the coach of the reigning Romanian champion CFF Clujana Cluj , was recommended. This took her under contract after a short trial session, so that Ficzay moved to Cluj-Napoca at the age of 15 . There she played first at CFF Clujana in the youth and a short time later in the first team. On September 6, 2008, she made her international debut in a 6-0 win over Northern Irish representatives Glentoran FC in the 2008/09 UEFA Women's Cup .

In the summer of 2010, her coach Mirel Albon founded a new club called CFF Olimpia Cluj , to which Ficzay moved together with seven of her teammates. Since there was no second division for women in Romania, the club entered the first division and promptly became Romanian champions with Ficzay as captain. They then went undefeated in the 2011/12 UEFA Women's Champions League qualifying round , but CFF Olimpia were knocked out in the round of 32 against Olympique Lyon .

National team

Ficzay played from September 2007 in the Romanian national team of juniors, of which she later became the captain. In 2009 she made her debut for the women's national team in a friendly match before playing in the World Cup qualification in the away win against Bosnia on March 27, 2010 .

In addition to her career, she studies sports education at the Facultatea de Educație Fizică și Sport of the Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj .
