Maria Inés Teresa Arias Espinosa , religious name Maria Inés Teresa of the Most Holy Sacrament , (born July 7, 1904 in Ixtlán del Río, Nayarit , Mexico ; † July 22, 1981 in Rome ) was a religious sister and founder of the Congregation of the Missionary Calls of the Most Holy Sacrament. She is venerated as a blessed in the Catholic Church . Her feast day in the liturgy is July 22nd .

Life

Maria Inés Teresa was born on July 7, 1904 in Ixtlán del Río, Mexico. Her parents were Eustaquio Arias Arroniz and María Espinosa López Portillo. She was baptized in the name of Manuela de Jesús. During the national Eucharistic Congress in Mexico in October 1924, she recognized her vocation to religious life. On the feast of Christ the King in 1926, she dedicated her life to God's merciful love and on June 7, 1929 entered the Poor Clare Monastery of Ave Maria in Los Angeles , as the Church, clergy and religious were suffering from the Guerra Cristera at that time in Mexico .

On December 12th, Sr. Maria Inés Teresa of the Most Holy Sacrament made her temporary profession . At the ceremony she had a spiritual experience: the picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe that hung in the chapel spoke to her and gave her a promise that strengthened her missionary vocation. In 1933 she made her perpetual profession.

In 1945 she received permission from her religious superiors and the ecclesiastical authorities to leave the cloister of the monastery and to found a new congregation , the Missionary Clarises of the Most Holy Sacrament. In a very short time the new congregation also received papal recognition. Maria Inés Teresa was appointed First Superior General and held this office until her death.

Mother Maria Inés Teresa founded convents and mission stations in Japan, Indonesia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, the USA, Costa Rica, Mexico, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Argentina, Russia, Germany, Korea and India. In 1979 she established a male branch of her fellowship, the Missionaries of Christ to the Universal Church. Groups of lay people and priests also emerged who felt connected to the spirituality of Mother Maria Inés Teresa. Together they form the Inesian family today.

On December 9, 1980, Mother Maria Inés Teresa was received by Pope John Paul II on the occasion of her 50th jubilee of profession and was able to renew her vows in his presence. Mother Maria Inés Teresa died on July 22, 1981 in the Generalate of the Congregation in Rome. Her grave is in the chapel of the Generalate in Rome (Salita di Castel Giubileo, 5–7).

Adoration

On April 21, 2012 Mother Maria Inés Teresa of the Most Holy Sacrament was born by Cardinal Angelo Amato on behalf of Pope Benedict XVI. Beatified in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City . Her liturgical feast day is the anniversary of her death, July 22nd.
