Maria Anna Klein-Schmeink (born January 6, 1958 in Dingden ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) and sociologist . She has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2009 .

Life

Maria Klein-Schmeink studied sociology from 1977 to 1984 at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and graduated with a master's degree. During her studies, she began to volunteer for the social pedagogical training center in Münster (Sobi). After completing her studies until 2002, she worked full-time in a leading position for the Sobi. From 1986 to 1988 she was involved in setting up the “culture and meeting center achtermannstrasse” (cuba). From 2002 until she moved into the German Bundestag in 2009, she worked as a research assistant for the Green Parliamentary Group in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Klein-Schmeink is married, has a daughter and lives in Münster .

politics

Since 1986 Klein-Schmeink has been involved with the Greens in Münster, for which she was elected to the city council in 1993. From 1994 until she left the Council in 2009, she was group spokeswoman for the Greens. In the local elections in 2004 she ran for the office of mayor and achieved 11.4%. When she ran for this post again in September 2015, she received 20.77% of the votes cast.

MPs

In the 2009 federal election , Klein-Schmeink entered the 17th German Bundestag via the NRW state list for the Greens . As a direct candidate in the Münster constituency , she received 12.8% of the first votes. She was a member of the Health Committee and spokeswoman for her group on prevention and patient rights. In the 2013 Bundestag election , it again entered the 18th German Bundestag via the NRW state list . Since then, Klein-Schmeink has been the health policy spokeswoman for her group, a full member of the Committee on Health and a deputy member of the Sports Committee and the Committee on Labor and Social Affairs . In 2017 she was re-elected to the German Bundestag. In the 19th German Bundestag , Klein-Schmeink is still a full member of the Health Committee and a deputy member of the Labor and Social Committee and the Sports Committee .

Memberships

Klein-Schmeink is a member of the board of the Aktion Psychisch Kranke eV in Bonn and a member of the advisory board of the Hospice Work Foundation in Münster.
