Maria Luise Schulten

Maria Luise Schulten (born December 17, 1950 in Oeding (now Südlohn-Oeding ) in western Münsterland ) is a German music teacher , musicologist and university teacher.

life and work

Schulten passed the first state examination for teaching at primary and secondary schools at the University of Cologne in 1973 and received his doctorate there in 1978 with an empirical study of the professional profile of music teachers at Helga de la Motte-Haber . She worked at various schools as a music and piano teacher and as a research assistant and lecturer in music psychology and music theory at the Universities of Cologne and Wuppertal .

In 1980 Maria Luise Schulten became a research assistant to Günther Noll at the Universities of Düsseldorf and Cologne and qualified as a professor in 1988 with the empirical thesis “Music Preference and Music Education . A contribution to basic research in music education ”. She then worked from 1988 to 1993 as a university lecturer for music education at the University of Gießen and from 1993 to 2000 as a professor for music education at the University of Münster . In 2000 she became a professor for music education at the University of Siegen. Her main research interests are empirical teaching research, music-psychological and music-sociological aspects of music teaching, and evaluation research in music education. In 2014 Marie Luise Schulten retired.

Maria Luise Schulten was a member of various specialist groups for music education as well as of the German Society for Music Psychology at federal and state level. She is currently a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the BMBF research program on Every Child an Instrument . This music education program, in whose scientific support Schulten was instrumental from the start, was first installed in the Ruhr area in the 2007/08 school year. In the future, not only instrument lessons should be possible, but instruments, dancing and singing (JeKits) should be offered to every child. The program is now available in a number of other federal states or is being planned. Schulten is also a member of the board of trustees of the foundation “Every child an instrument”.
