Maria Metzker

Maria Metzker (born August 30, 1916 in Vienna ; † June 21, 2010 ibid) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and union secretary. Metzker was a member of the National Council from 1970 to 1983 .

After compulsory school, Metzker attended business school and worked as a secretary, export correspondent, authorized signatory , sales manager and most recently as a union secretary. From 1949 to 1955 she worked as a works council representative for a trading company and in 1955 became secretary and head of the women's department of the private employees' union (GPA). In addition, from 1959 she was chamber councilor of the Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees for Vienna. After Rosa Weber's death , Metzker took over the role of women chairman of the Austrian Trade Union Federation , in 1979 she was elected the first female vice-president of the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions (ÖGB). Metzker represented the SPÖ from March 31, 1970 to June 24, 1970 and again from October 19, 1970 to May 18, 1983 in the National Council and was from 1979 chairman of the social committee. Metzker resigned from their political functions in 1983 for reasons of age. She was buried at the Döblinger Friedhof .
