Maria Michaela Desmaisières (full name María de la Soledad Micaela Agustina Antonia Bibiana Desmaissières y López de Dicastillo, Vizcondesa de Jorbalán , born January 1, 1809 in Madrid , Spain , † August 24, 1865 in Valencia , Spain) was a Spanish countess and Founder of the order . She is a saint of the Catholic Church.

Life

Maria Michaela, who came from the Spanish nobility, looked after the needy at an early age and taught children the catechism . In 1845 she opened a home for girls at risk and in 1856 founded the Congregation of the “Worshipers and Servants of the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar and Charity” ( Religiosas Adoratrices, Esclavas del Santísimo Sacramento y de la Caridad ). It was finally recognized by the papacy in 1866. The institute is dedicated to the worship of the Eucharistic gifts and works of charity .

Maria Michaela Desmaisières died of cholera that she contracted while caring for the sick.

Beatification and Canonization

Maria Michaela Desmaisières was born by Pope Pius XI. Beatified in 1925 and canonized in 1934 . Her feast day in the liturgy is August 24th .
