Maria Serrat i Martín

Maria Serrat i Martín (* 20th century ) is a Catalan cultural manager . She has been Director General of the Conservatori del Liceu in Barcelona since 1999 .

life and work

Maria Serrat holds a degree in humanities with a focus on cultural management from the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC) and a diploma in business administration and management from the Escuela Superior de Administración y Dirección de Empresas (ESADE) (School of Business Administration and Management). In 2017 she did her doctorate at the Facultat d'Humanitats (Faculty of Humanities) of the UIC with the thesis Orígen del Conservatori Liceu (1837–1967) (The origins of the Liceu Conservatory 1837–1967).

She began her professional career in 1974 as the manager of the municipal health institute in Mataró . In 1990 she was appointed director of the Institut Català de les Dones (Catalan Women's Institute) by the Generalitat de Catalunya . She founded and developed this institution of the Catalan government. Since 1999 she has been Director General of the Conservatori del Liceu Foundation . This position was newly created in 1999. In this context, she promoted and developed the Conservatori del Liceu . As part of the Bologna Process, she supported the development of new curricula and the integration of the conservatory into the European higher education landscape.

The publication Els ensenyaments musicals a Catalunya 1996–2002 (Teaching in the field of music in Catalonia 1996–2002) must be mentioned for their research . She has also published several reports on art education in Catalonia and its implications on cultural life. She was a member of the Consejo Superior de Enseñanzas Artísticas (Advisory Board for Artistic Education), Vice-President of the Asociación Española de Centros de Enseñanzas Artísticas (Spanish Association of Artistic Education Centers), member of the Board of Directors of the Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya (Youth Orchestra of Catalonia). She is a member of the Consell Català de la Música (Catalan Music Council) and the Consell Assessor de la Coordinadora Catalana de Fundacions (Coordinating Council of Catalan Foundations).
