Maria Wiebosch-Steeman

Maria Wiebosch-Steeman (born February 26, 1950 in Castricum ) is a Dutch politician from GroenLinks .

Career

Wiebosch studied for biochemical and medical analysts. She also acquired her chemistry teaching degree. Between 1974 and 1989 she worked as an analyst in hospitals and universities. In 1975 she became a member of the Politieke Partij Raduellen (PPR).

In 1987 she became a member of the Provinciale Staten of the Province of North Holland , first for the PPR and later for GroenLinks. From 1990 to 1994 she was also secretary to the federal executive board of GroenLinks. From 1995 to 1999 she was "Hoogheemraad" in the Rhineland Water Association ("Hoogheemraadschap van Rijnland"). From 1994 to 2002 she was a member of the Bloemendaal Municipal Council . From 2000 to 2004 she was the managing director and owner of the consulting firm “Wiebosch Advies en Interim Management” named after her. From 2004 to 2009 she was mayor of Jacobswoude . With effect from January 1, 2009, this municipality was merged into the municipalities of Kaag and Braassem.

From February 2009 to April 2012 she was the mayor of Hardinxveld-Giessendam . In this role she was u. a. responsible for general administration, security and tourism as well as culture in the Hardinxveld-Giessendam municipality. In addition, she was chairwoman of the College of Mayors and City Councilors ( Dutch " burgemeester en wethouders " , B&W) as well as the local council of Hardinxveld-Giessendam. She resigned because the renovation of the council and wedding hall turned out to be significantly more expensive than planned. The community did not pay enough attention to the cost of the project, according to an audit.

After the mayor of the municipality of Zwijndrecht resigned on November 12, 2012 (he moved on to Venlo), Jan Franssen , the king's commissioner in the province of South Holland , appointed Wiebosch-Steeman as the “incumbent mayoress” ( Dutch waarnemend burgemeester ). The appointment on November 9, 2012 took place after consultation with the group chairmen of the council parties. Wiebosch-Steeman had announced early on that he would not apply for the office for the regular election of a mayor, which was planned for the summer of 2013.

She has cancer herself and has a stoma. She has been a member of the Advisory Board of the Dutch Ostomy Association since September 2018. As part of her other engagements, she was u. a. In 2015 appointed chairman of the “Van Andel Spruijt Natuurcentrum” foundation in Gorinchem .
