Their daughter Madalena, who was born in 1924, lived with her mother. At her death she left 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She is said to have been to a hospital only once in her entire life and to have been in good health until her death. In the last years of her life, however, she was increasingly restricted in her mobility and needed a walker to move about. In the end she did not recognize her relatives anymore because she had severe problems with her eyes and hearing. However, she was still able to wave and smile to visitors. Maria de Jesus lived at home all her life. She loved looking at old photo albums, enjoying the sun on her terrace and eating rice and ice cream. The pescetarian said she had never had alcohol or coffee and loved vegetables.
