Bartholomäus Öberl

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bartholomew Öberl even Eberl, Eberle , Eberlin , Öberli , Öberle , (* 1660 in Bachem , † July 1742 in Friedberg near Augsburg) was a local sculptor of the Baroque in Friedberg.

Life

Building of the former workshop of Öberl in Friedberg

Öberl was born in Bachern in 1660 as the son of a carpenter . His first marriage was on July 29, 1686 and from then on worked as a sculptor in Friedberg. In total, Öberl had 12 children from three marriages. One of his sons was Johann Caspar Öberl , who took over the sculpture workshop in Friedberg, Unterm Berg No. 21. Both Öberl were extraordinarily productive and their works can be traced far beyond the Friedberg area. The works of the artists are considered to be "of a remarkable level". In contrast to his son, at least Öberl's early sculptures are rather heavy and restrained. Bartholomäus Öberl was buried after his death on July 20, 1742 near St. Stefan in Friedberg.
