St. Nicholas in Hügelshart

The Catholic branch church St. Nikolaus is a monument in Hügelshart near Friedberg in Bavaria .

history

The little church of St. Nicholas was built in the first half of the 13th century. This makes it one of the oldest churches in the region. Its history could go back even further, as the worship of St. Nicholas in the diocese of Augsburg goes back to Bishop Ulrich . The church was rebuilt several times in the 18th century. In 1993 a people's altar and a sacristy extension were added, and the shell was adapted to the room concept. St. Nikolaus is a branch church of the parish St. Michael in Ottmaring .

Building description

St. Nicholas is a simple hall building with a small, niche-shaped and semicircular apse and a square choir tower with a gable roof . The small window above the portal is still Romanesque , the other window openings are due to a renovation in the 18th and 19th centuries. Century back.

Furnishing

The altar in the niche was built around 1745 and consists of a brick canteen and a three-part top. The late Gothic statue of Mary holding baby Jesus in the sanctuary dates from shortly before 1500. The crucifix on the chancel arch is a few years younger and like the Madonna modern focus . On the left of the choir arch there is a statue of St. Wolfgang and on the right one of St. Nikolaus, both of which date from before 1700 and were probably made by Bartholomäus Öberl .
