St. John Baptist in pair

The Catholic parish church of St. Johannes Baptist (also St. Johannes Baptista or St. Johann Baptist ) is a monument in Paar near Friedberg .

history

The original church of St. Johannes Baptist was probably the baptismal church of an early parish , as the name suggests. Parts of the tower base date from the 13th century. Remains of an even earlier building are not yet known. In 1747 the church was redesigned in baroque style. The frescoes were by Matthäus Günther and the stucco by Franz Xaver Feichtmayr . When the nave collapsed at the end of the 19th century, however, much of it was destroyed. 1953 to 1955 the nave was completely rebuilt under Pastor Joseph Abecherle. On November 25, 2018, the redesign of the interior was completed with the consecration of the altar by Auxiliary Bishop Anton Losinger .

Building description

St. Johannes Baptist is a choir tower church in which the tower and choir form one structure. The square base of the choir tower has three floors and is structured with pilaster strips and cornices . On top of it there is a polygonal 2½-storey tower, which is crowned by an onion dome. The nave is a flat-roofed hall building with a strongly drawn-in, groin-vaulted choir and with a western sign .

Furnishing

inner space

The choir was spared the collapse of the nave. The fresco shows the sermon of John the Baptist by Matthäus Günter. The four evangelists are depicted in the medallions . The stucco by Franz Xaver Feichtmayr has also been preserved. The altarpiece , probably also by Günter, shows John the Baptist. St. John above the tabernacle is represented by figures of St. Peter and Paul flanked. These were created around 1680 in Lorenz Luidl's workshop . The figure of St. Sebastian in the right side altar is from Luidl himself, while the two putti on the left side altar come from his workshop. The right side altar is dedicated to St. Dedicated to Franz Xavier , the left one to St. Johann Nepomuk. Both date from around 1680. The figure of Mary in the niche of the left side altar was created around 1500 under the influence of Gregor Erhart . The baptismal font around 1750, as well as St. Anna with Maria around 1730/40 are by Johann Caspar Öberl . His father Bartholomäus probably created the scourge Christ from the late 17th century in the omens. The figures of St. Barbara and St. Ottilia on the gallery, as well as St. Georg on the north wall from the end of the 15th century come from the church in Rettenberg . The figure of St. Leonhard on the choir wall was created in the middle of the 16th century. The crucifix with the Mater dolorosa from the early 18th century is considered to be of particularly high quality.
