Maria of the Holy Rosary , also known as the Rosary Church, is the Roman Catholic church in the Nettlingen district of the Söhlde community in the Hildesheim district in Lower Saxony . Today it belongs to the parish of St. Nikolaus Ottbergen in the deanery Borsum - Sarstedt of the diocese Hildesheim .

history

Since the introduction of the Reformation in 1568 in Nettlingen, with the Evangelical Church of St. Maria, the Catholic Christians of the town have visited the Church of St. Michael in Dingelbe .

In 1934 the Catholic Henze family leased the castle and the manor in Nettlingen . She set up a chapel there, in which a Catholic service could be celebrated on Sunday. The number of worshipers, including the Catholics from Bettrum and the hamlet of Helmersen, rose to 800 after 1945 due to the influx of refugees from the east. After the lease with the Henze family had expired , the construction of a parish church was planned. With the cooperation of the Nettlingen and Bettrum communities and the financial support of Pastor Johannes Machowiak , who was in the concentration camp under the Nazi regime and contributed his concentration camp compensation funds, the foundation stone was laid on July 25, 1955. On December 18 of the same year the Church of Mary of the Holy Rosary was consecrated by the auxiliary bishop Johannes Bydolek with the additional patronages St. Bruno and Ursula . The catchment area of the Nettlinger parish included the villages of Bettrum and Feldbergen as well as the hamlet of Helmersen.

On November 1, 2014, the parish of St. Nikolaus was established with its seat in Ottbergen. In this context, the parish Maria of the Holy Rosary in Nettlingen was abolished and assigned to the newly established parish, which included around 3,400 Catholics when it was founded. Mary of the Holy Rosary has been a branch church of St. Nikolaus Ottbergen since then.
