Mariagerfjord

The up to 29 m deep Mariagerfjord is a fjord on the Baltic Sea coast in the northern part of Jutland in Denmark .
designation
The incorrect designation as fjord in German is due to the fact that this term is more broadly defined in Danish than in German; there a fjord is a sea area surrounded on three sides by land. No distinction is made between fjord and fjord .
geography
At 38 kilometers, the inlet is the longest on the Cimbrian Peninsula . In places it is 250 m wide, the widest part is 4.5 kilometers on Ajstrup Bay . The edge area is shallow, so that a narrow fairway leads through the fjord.
Its banks are completely surrounded by the Danish municipality of Mariagerfjord . There are three towns with more than 2000 inhabitants: Hobro at the end of the fjord (12130 inhabitants), Hadsund in Himmerland (4971) and the eponymous town of Mariager (2537).
The only crossing is the Hadsundbroen , a bridge in Hadsund . Several smaller watercourses flow into the Mariagerfjord . The larger ones include Villestrup Å on the north side and Kastbjerg Å on the south side.
