Hadsundbroen ( German  the Hadsund Bridge ) is an approximately 250 meter long bascule bridge that crosses the Mariagerfjord and connects Hadsund on the Danish Himmerland peninsula with the south of the city (in East Jutland ). Over the four-lane road bridge leading Sekundærrute 507, a highway running between Randers and Aalborg runs, and will sail there from around 10,000 vehicles per day (in 2009).

history

The predecessor of today's Hadsundbro was a combined railway and road bridge built between 1902 and 1904, over which the Aalborg – Hadsund railway ran. Since the bridge was closed to motor vehicles when trains were passing through, the 260-meter-long structure turned out to be too narrow for the increasing car traffic. In 1972 it was decided to build a new bridge - while removing the old bridge at the same time. Plans for a high bridge were discarded at the time because on the one hand building costs were too high and on the other hand the local population saw the economic life of the city endangered if traffic were to be diverted around the city. After two years of construction, the new bridge was finally opened on November 10, 1976 in the presence of the Danish Queen Margrethe II . An annual bridge festival as well as a ball bearing on the old bridge at Hadsund Harbor are supposed to remind of the importance of the bridge.
