The Mariahilf chapel in the village of Rinderschinken (municipality of St. Jakob in Defereggen ) is a late Baroque Roman Catholic chapel consecrated to Maria Hilf . The sacred building erected in 1785 is a listed building .

The Mariahilf Chapel is located in the village of Rinderschinken near the bridge over the Schwarzach, which connects beef ham with Mariahilf. The church is located around 2.5 kilometers west of the parish center of St. Jakob in Defereggen at an altitude of around 1422  m above sea level. A.

Building

Outward appearance

The chapel was built in 1785 using a previous building and was consecrated that same year. It has a rectangular floor plan, the rounded choir has a conical shape. There is also a low sacristy on the east side with a three-sided end and a wooden vestibule on the west side. The external appearance is also characterized by the shingle-covered gable roof over a hollow and the gable rider on the entrance side with arched sound windows, a curved pyramid helmet and an entrance crowned by a ball, cross and weathercock. The external appearance is also accentuated by the yellow frame structure of the rectangular windows, while the wall surfaces are kept in white rough plaster.

Interior and establishment

The interior of the chapel was designed as a flat barrel vault. On the entrance side there is a gallery with a staircase on the north side, the floor was designed with yellow and black plates in a diamond pattern at the end of the 19th century. On the other hand, the choir, which was laid out with brick tiles in the 20th century, is one step higher. Simple canopy paintings were uncovered on the front wall of the apse during renovation work in 1991. Furthermore, the chapel was equipped with glass windows that were designed by Carl Rieder from Schwaz and produced between 1943 and 1944 by the Tyrolean glass painting company. They show Marian images of grace with colorful figures in front of a neutral background and each with a label.

The altar area of ​​the Mariahilf Chapel was designed in a modern way with a wooden table altar. Above it is a Mariahilf picture of the Cranach type from the 18th century with a gilded halo frame , which is surrounded by four wooden putti from the middle of the 18th century. There is also a tabernacle shrine with a standing cross, brass chandelier, a wooden Holy Spirit dove and a crucifixion group on the gallery parapet from the 1950s in the chapel.
