Mariana Karepova (* 1969) has been President of the Austrian Patent Office since November 1, 2015, as the first woman in this position .

Life

Karepova studied Slavic Studies and Literature at the Moscow State Pedagogical University and from 1990 at the University of Vienna Economics with a focus on Austrian and European economic and innovation policy. After graduating from university, she completed postgraduate courses at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the London School of Economics and Political Science .

She began her professional career in 1997 in the economic sector of the Chamber of Labor and moved to Brussels in 2000 in order to work at the EU Commission in addition to working in the European Parliament in negotiations on the eastward expansion of the EU by coordinating the negotiations with the candidate countries in the field of financial control.

Between 2003 and 2011 Karepova was initially at the Research Promotion Fund (FFF) as a commercial project appraiser and then at the Research Promotion Agency (FFG) in the strategy department on the development of new funding programs such as B. the innovation check, the evaluations of the funding measures and internationalization involved.
