Marianne Kneisel
Marianne Kneisel (born March 10, 1897 in Boston , † March 1, 1972 ) was an American violinist and music teacher .
The daughter of violinist Franz Kneisel began her musical training at the age of nine at the Institute of Musical Arts (now the Juilliard School ) in New York, where she began teaching at the age of 25 after graduation. At the same time she founded the Marianne Kneisel String Quartet , with which she performed for 25 years.
In 1922 her husband Felix Kahn , a brother of the banker Otto Hermann Kahn , had the Kneisel Hall built for her father in Blue Hill / Maine . On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of her father's death in 1951, she expanded this into a concert hall and founded the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music School there in 1953 with the pianist Artur Balsam , the violinist Joseph Fuchs and the violist Lillian Fuchs , which she directed until her death.
