Marie Catherine Brignole
Marie Catherine Brignole (born October 7, 1737 in Genoa , † March 18, 1813 in Wimbledon ) was Princess of Monaco and Princess Condé .
Life
The daughter of Doge Giovanni Maria Brignole (1703–1769) and Anna Balbi (* 1720) from one of the oldest Genoese noble families ( Brignole ) married Prince Honoré III in Monaco on July 5, 1757 at the age of 20 . from Monaco. She brought a considerable dowry with her to the Princely House. The couple had two children:
- Prince Honoré IV of Monaco (1758–1819)
- Prince Joseph of Monaco (1767-1816)
In 1770 the couple divorced and Catherine moved to France. During the French Revolution, she fled to England and married there, at the age of 61, on October 24, 1798, Louis (V) de Bourbon-Condé (1736-1818), the widowed Prince of Condé, vehement opponent of the revolution and Napoleon.
Catherine died in exile in England in 1813 and was buried in the Chapel of St Louis at Wimbledon. A year after her death, her husband was able to return to France.
