The Marienkapelle on Wiesentheider Strasse

The Marienkapelle in Markt Geiselwind in Lower Franconia is a small Catholic church. It is on Wiesentheider Strasse in the west of the medieval old town. The chapel was built in the same year as its counterpart, the Trinity Chapel , in the east of the village.

history

The Marienkapelle was donated in 1723 by the citizen Valentin Stöckinger. It was created outside the village wall in front of the western gate. In 1906 the construction work for the chapel was handed over to the community. This renovated the chapel several times. The roof was re-covered in 1953, while the interior of the chapel was renovated in 1954. In 1981 the church was whitewashed.

The community includes the chapel in their annual processions . It is classified as an architectural monument by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments .

description

The chapel is not east, but was oriented to the north. It presents itself as a small hall with a polygonal choir closure . The church closes with a hipped roof, on the north side a small roof turret was placed. A window with drilled frames on each side of the nave provides for the transparency. The south portal was also framed with ears, it also has other decorations.

The parish had the Marien altar re-gilded in 1983. The few pews date from 1995. Two bells were hung in the roof turret. They were created in 1946 by a Bamberg bell foundry and consecrated in 1951. They replaced two previous bells that had to be melted down in the First and Second World Wars.
