Marienkirche Tüngental
The parish church of St. Maria is a Protestant church in Tüngental , a district of Schwäbisch Hall .
history
The church and the parish were donated in 1050 by Count Emhard von Comburg. The church was originally called the Holy Cross . The mother church was the Church of the Holy Cross in Erlach. However, when a pilgrimage to the stone statue of the Virgin Mary in the choir of the church "to the miraculous Mary with the hare" began in 1434, the church was given the name of St. Mary .
architecture
The originally Romanesque church was rebuilt in the Gothic style in the 15th century and received a Gothic east choir. A cross vault was drawn into the nave . The base of the tower was Romanesque. The ribbed vaulted choir was built around 1440, probably from the hut of St. Michael zu Hall .
The church's furnishings included a late Gothic carved altar shrine, which was stylistically related to the altar of St. Bartholomew's Church in Anhausen and that in the sacristy of St. Michael in Schwäbisch Hall . In 1945 the sacred building was largely destroyed by tank bombardment, with the Gothic altar with the stone statue of Mary with the hare being lost.
A new building was built; the parish hall is located on the south side of the new church. In 2005 a new Maria with the rabbit was created to commemorate the destruction of St. Mary's Church.
Four panes of glass with the crucified, Mary, John and a remains of the coat of arms have been preserved. They represent the remains of glass paintings from around 1435:
- A disc with Christ on the cross. The background is diced blue and yellow with inlaid leaves
- A disc with Maria. The background is diced red and white with inlaid leaves
- A disc with Johannes. The background is diced red and white with inlaid leaves
The founder was a Herr von Vellberg as cast vogt .
The stained glass is stylistically related to the stained glass in St. Martin's Church in Stöckenburg and some of the panels in St. Katharina zu Schwäbisch Hall .
