Marienstein is a district of the municipality Waakirchen in the west of the Upper Bavarian district of Miesbach . The Festenbach runs through Marienstein .

history

In 1850/51 the owner of the Oberkammerloh estate, Deuringer, built two cement kilns and a mill. The stones for his cement factory were obtained in the Holzwiesenthal quarry , where he later relocated his activity and renamed it Marienstein after his granddaughter Maria. The mining of the cement marl took place in tunnels that came across a layer of pitch coal . In 1852 Deuringer received the right to extract coal from the Royal Mining Authority in Munich. He expanded the Marienstein mine and built a neighboring cement works. The mine existed until 1962 when the last shift was run. After the closure of the cement works in 1998, the community tried to locate industries.

The current district arose from company apartments and administrative buildings of the mine and cement works.
