Marija Petrovna Lilina , actually Marija Petrovna Perewoschtschikowa ( Russian Мария Петровна Лилина / Перевощикова ; born June 21 . Jul / 3. July  1866 greg. In Moscow ; † 24. August 1943 ibid), was a Russian stage actress.

Life

Lilina came from an impoverished Moscow noble family. She was in a relationship with the actor and director Konstantin Sergejewitsch Stanislawski , whom she married in 1889. After first appearances on student and amateur stages, she began her career as an actress in 1888 in theater productions of the Moscow Society for Art and Literature, which Stanislavski co-founded ( Russian Об ество искусства и литературы ). There she made her debut as Claudine in George Dandin . She performed under her stage name Lilina. In 1898 she came to the newly founded Chekhov Art Theater in Moscow , where she was one of the main actors in the following years. She played Mascha in The Seagull , Sonja in Uncle Vanya (1898, 1899), Natascha in Three Sisters and Anja, and later Varya in The Cherry Orchard (1904 and 1911) by Anton Chekhov . Other important roles played by Lilina were, for example, that of Marija Timofejewna in Nikolai Stavrogin (based on Dostoyevsky's novel The Demons ), Lisa in Gore ot uma ( Alexander Sergejewitsch Gribojedow ) and Elina in An des Reiches Pforten ( Knut Hamsun ). In Leo Tolstoy's play The Living Corpse , she appeared as Anna Dmitrijewna at the side of her husband, who played Prince Abreskov. In 1933 she was awarded the title of People's Artist by the RSFSR .

In 1935 Lilina began to teach opera and drama in Stanislawski's studio using her husband's methods. She was still on stage herself until 1942, and died in Moscow the following year.
