Marija Olehiwna Pudowkina ( Ukrainian Марія Олегівна Пудовкіна , English transcription: Mariya Pudovkina ; born March  19, 1996 ) is a Ukrainian billiard player from Dnipro , who competes in the billiard variant Russian billiards .

In 2015 she was the only Ukrainian woman to become world champion in the free pyramid discipline . In addition, the four-time Ukrainian champion was European youth champion in 2013 and third in the women's championship in 2014 .

Career

At the age of 12, Pudovkina took part in the European Youth Championship and the Ukrainian Championship for adults for the first time in 2008 , but retired early.

At the beginning of 2009 she won her first of nine Ukrainian youth championship titles. A little later she made her European Cup debut and was eliminated in the preliminary round, it was her only European Cup participation. In the second half of 2009 she achieved her first respectable successes among adults; In the Dynamic Pyramid she won the bronze medal at the national championship , in the Ukrainian Cup she made it into the final for the first time, in which she lost to Sarjana Prytuljuk 3: 5, and in November she took part in the Free in Iskitim, Russia for the first time -Pyramid World Cup, in which she won one of her three preliminary round matches against Kazjaryna Perepechayeva .

In January 2010, she received her second bronze medal at a national championship , this time in the combined pyramid discipline . After another cup final defeat against Sarjana Prytuljuk (1: 5) Pudowkina reached the final of a Ukrainian championship for the first time in the dynamic pyramid and had to admit defeat to Olena Afanasjewa 1: 5. At the 2010 World Youth Championship she reached the quarter-finals, in which she was defeated by the eventual world champion Diana Mironova . At the Women's World Cup in October 2010, she reached the last sixteen. In the Ukrainian Cup, she had to accept her third defeat in the final a little later, this time against Marija Turtschyna (0: 4). At the end of the year, she was eliminated from the European Championships in the preliminary round and the quarter-finals of the final tournament of the Ukrainian Cup.

The year 2011 started with little success for Pudovkina. At the Ukrainian championships in 2011 she did not get beyond the preliminary round, as well as at the European Youth Championship . After she finished second in the Ukrainian team championship with Jewhen Talow and Mykyta Wolyk in the summer , she made it to the quarter-finals again at the youth championship and then had to accept the preliminary round in the adults' category. In December, she scored her first cup win in the final against Anna Kotljar 4-1.

In early 2012, Pudowkina suffered three defeats in the final. First she was defeated in the Cup to Anna Kotljar 3: 5 and a little later she lost in the Ukrainian championship against Wiktorija Iwanowa 2: 4 ( combined pyramid ) and Natalija Kossjak 0: 4 ( dynamic pyramid ). At the European Championships in 2012, she reached the quarter-finals among the youths and was eliminated from the adults in the preliminary round. In June she became Ukrainian team champion together with Artem Mojissejenko and Mykyta Wolyk. In September she retired in Sudak in her first World Cup participation in the preliminary round. After a 4-5 defeat in the final against Anastassija Kowaltschuk in the cup, Pudowkina reached the second round at the Free Pyramid World Cup for the second time and lost to Darja Michailowa . In November 2012, the women's world championship was held for the first time in the Dynamic Pyramid , in which Pudovkina defeated Wijaleta Klimava and made it into a quarter-finals for the first time, in which she was defeated by Russian Natalija Kornewa . A little later, she reached the final of the Ukrainian Cup in the final, in which she had to admit defeat Anastassija Kovalchuk 3: 4.

In March 2013 Pudovkina won a 4-2 win over Anastassija Kovalchuk for the second time a tournament of the Ukrainian Cup. Pudovkina also won the opening tournament of the 2014 Cup, this time in the final against Wlada Kudizkaja (4: 2), before she was eliminated in the second tournament in the quarter-finals. In July 2014 she achieved her greatest success so far when she defeated the reigning world champion Olga Milowanova at the European Championships and reached the semifinals, in which she was defeated by Anastassija Kovalchuk 3: 5. At the 2014 Youth World Cup , she reached the final, in which she had to admit defeat to defending champion Diana Mironova 2: 5. A little later she became Ukrainian champion for the first time in the Free Pyramid , after beating Sarjana Prytuljuk in the final with a 5: 4 victory. At the World Cup, she failed shortly thereafter for the third time in a row in the round of 16, this time to Kristina Saltovskaya .

In 2015, Pudovkina lost three finals in a row against Anastassija Kovalchuk at national level - 2: 4 in the Combined Pyramid Championship , 1: 5 in the Cup and 1: 4 in the Dynamic Pyramid Championship - before they came in November in the Free Pyramid Championship defended her title against Tetjana Tutschak 5: 4. In the following years Pudovkina played fewer tournaments and these only in Ukraine. At the beginning of 2017 she won a cup tournament for the seventh time with a 5-0 final victory against Lyubow Schyhajlowa . This remained her best result at national level that year. Only in the Dynamic Pyramid Championship did she get past the quarterfinals by winning the bronze medal. In 2018 she won a smaller tournament in Kiev and made it to the final of the first national triathlon championship from the three disciplines, in which she lost 2-0 to Anna Kotljar. In the championships of the individual disciplines, however, she did not get beyond fifth place.

In 2019, Pudovkina reached the final of the Ukrainian championship in the Dynamic Pyramid and lost 4-1 to Anastassija Kovalchuk. After she won a bronze medal in the cup, she won the championship in the Free Pyramid for the third time in October 2019 , making her the record winner in this discipline.

In July 2020, Pudovkina reached the final of the Ukrainian championship for the third time in the combined pyramid , but in which she had to admit defeat to 15-year-old Jana Wassylowa 3: 4, the deciding game only being decided with the fifteenth ball.
