Marijus Arvydas Šliogeris (born September 12, 1944 in Panevėžys , Lithuania ) is a Lithuanian philosopher , translator and researcher of German existentialism , essayist and professor at Vilnius University (VU).

Life

Marijus Arvydas Šliogeris teaches at the VU and the Vilnius Pedagogical University , heads the Chair of Philosophy at the VU Philosophy Faculty and is a member of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences .

After graduating from the second middle school Panevezys graduated Šliogeris 1967 Diploma in Chemistry at the Chemistry Faculty of the Polytechnic Institute of Kaunas . Since 1973 he has been teaching philosophy at the philosophy faculty of the VU. He completed his habilitation in philosophy.

Arvydas Šliogeris translated the works of philosophers such as Karl Popper , Karl Jaspers , Martin Heidegger , Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel , Arthur Schopenhauer , Friedrich Nietzsche , Hannah Arendt , Albert Camus and others into Lithuanian . He lectured in Brighton , Budapest , Stockholm , Frankfurt am Main , Chicago and Dresden .

Šliogeris is the recipient of the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Art (1992).
