Marina Lvovna Syrowa

Marina Lwowna Syrowa ( Russian Марина Львовна Сырова ; scientific transliteration Marina L'vovna Syrova ; born October 4, 1961 ) is a Russian judge. She was best known for leading the lawsuit against the punk band Pussy Riot .

Career

Marina Syrowa graduated from law school in 1984 and worked in the public prosecutor's office for more than 20 years . Marina Syrowa is a judicial advisor ( Russian советник юстиции ). Since June 2006 she has held the office of Justice of the Peace . Marina Syrowa has been a federal judge in Moscow's Khamovniki district since March 1, 2008 .

Activity as a federal judge

Within three years Marina Syrowa passed 178 judgments, including one acquittal. In two percent of the cases, the proceedings were discontinued due to the lack of a crime.

In February 2010, Syrowa sentenced former director of the Moscow Youth Palace, Pavel Sabelin, to eight years after he was granted asylum in Estonia.

In 2012, Marina Lvovna Syrowa led the legal case against Pussy Riot. At the request of the chairwoman of the Moscow City Court Olga Yegorova, Marina Syrowa has been granted state protection since August 16, 2012 (the day before the judgment) following numerous threats. On August 17, 2012, the verdict was pronounced that sends the three members of the band Pussy Riot into camp for two years.
