The Navy Memorial is a war memorial in Swakopmund in the region Erongo in Namibia . This has been a national monument of Namibia since January 2nd, 1969 .
The memorial was designed by Albert Moritz Wolf and unveiled on August 1, 1908. It commemorates the Marine Expeditionary Corps of the Schutztruppe and their contribution to the Herero and Nama uprising in 1904.
In 2015 the memorial was damaged in various, unauthorized actions, including by paint bags. Individuals requested that the monument be returned to Germany, but the Namibian government refused.
