Brest naval base

The Brest naval base (French Base Navale de Brest ) is a naval base of the French Navy in Brest . The only since 2000, designated as such based lies in the region of Brittany in the department of Finistere . It is part of a base de défense Brest-Lorient that was re-established in 2011 .

The Brest naval base is the home port of the surface units of the French Atlantic fleet ; the decor was ahead of Arsenal Brest ( Arsenal de Brest known).

  • 1631–1635 Construction of the port infrastructure begins
  • 1674 powder magazines, Cordellerie and military hospital
  • 1683 Construction of the Troulan Basin
  • 1746 Construction of the three Pontaniou basins near the anchor forge and the shipyard
  • 1752 Construction of Bagne Prison, which was demolished in 1947

  • 1910–1916 Excavation of the two building docks and construction of a dry dock in the Lanion area, which are now known as Bassin 8 and Bassin 9

  • 1918 Construction of the flotilla quay
  • 1931–1933 closure of the western port entrance
  • 1938 Start of the construction work for the Bassin 10 of (the work was suspended from 1939 to 1945)
  • 1940 Construction of the German submarine base (base of the Kriegsmarine )
  • 1963–1964 Extension of the pier
  • 1969–1970 Construction of the two aircraft carriers - locks 3 and 4
