Mario Amižić (born October 31, 1954 in Zadar , Yugoslavia ) is a former Yugoslav table tennis player and today's Croatian table tennis trainer .

Career

During his youth, Amižić was part of the Yugoslav national team. For three years he played with Novi Sad in the country's first division.

He has been working as a trainer since 1977, preferably with very young talents. His father Tomislav Amižić, who trained young people, served as his model. One of Mario Amižić's first students was Zoran Primorac , who later reached world-class level.

In 1986, Amižić was signed by Borussia Düsseldorf as a coach, where he stayed until 1999. He led this club to numerous successes: seven-time German champion, six-time winner of the European Cup , two-time winner of the ETTU Cup . The career of Jörg Roßkopf is closely linked to Amizic's work in Düsseldorf . He joined Düsseldorf shortly after he took office and left Düsseldorf a year after Amizic left. Roßkopf - and also other players, such as Fetzner - benefited from working with Amižić: Mario is the coach who made me what I am .

In 1995 the Association of German Table Tennis Trainers (VDTT) named Mario Amižić "Trainer of the Year".

Time to Düsseldorf

Since 1995 Amižić has been running the table tennis center in Düsseldorf in cooperation with the Butterfly company and the Borussia Düsseldorf club . He trains young Japanese players in particular for the Japanese Table Tennis Association. In the summer he accepted an offer from the Russian Table Tennis Association to work there as a trainer with his brother Leo.

Private

Mario Amižić has two sons. His brother Leo Amižić also works as a table tennis trainer, first in Austria, then in the mid-1990s for the German Bundesliga club TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen .
