Mario Baroni

Mario Baroni (born March 11, 1927 in Scarperia , † August 1, 1994 in Figline Valdarno ) was an Italian racing cyclist .

Athletic career

In 1949 Baroni became a professional driver in the Bartali-Gardiol team , of which Gino Bartali was the captain . Later he drove for a few years as a helper for Fiorenzo Magni . Despite his role as a helper, he won several smaller races in the early years of his professional career. He had his greatest successes with the big country tours. In 1957 he won a stage of the Giro, at the Vuelta a España he won one stage each in 1955 and 1957 . He also won the day at the Tour of Holland . He  contested the Giro d'Italia seven times, the 20th place in 1955 was his best overall result. He drove the Tour de France five times, in 1956 he was best placed in 38th place. He drove the Vuelta twice.
