Scarperia
Scarperia is a district of the municipality of Scarperia e San Piero with 5165 inhabitants (as of 2011) in the metropolitan city of Florence in the Italian region of Tuscany . The place belongs to the administrative community Comunità Montana Mugello .
Scarperia is part of the I borghi più belli d'Italia association (“The most beautiful places in Italy”).
geography
Scarperia is located in the Mugello south of the Passo del Giogo , about 30 km north of Florence . Districts ( frazioni ) are Sant'Agata Mugello, Ponzalla and Marcoiano.
The neighboring towns are Barberino di Mugello , Borgo San Lorenzo , Firenzuola and San Piero a Sieve .
On January 1, 2014, the previously independent municipality of Scarperia merged with the neighboring municipality of San Piero a Sieve to form the new municipality of Scarperia e San Piero.
history
The place was badly damaged in an earthquake on June 13, 1542.
