Mario Bravo (writer)

Mario Bravo (born June 27, 1882 in La Cocha , Tucumán , † March 17, 1944 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine writer.

Bravo studied law at the Universidad de Buenos Aires and was able to successfully complete this with his dissertation on labor law . He showed himself to be a vehement supporter of a general right to strike for workers.

Convinced by his friendship with the writer Ricardo Jaimes Freyre , Bravo became a member of the Socialist Party of Argentina . Politically engaged, Bravo was elected MP in 1913 and this career culminated in the office of President of the Chamber of Deputies.

Bravo's political comments were regularly featured in various newspapers and magazines. He became famous for his column "Mirador" in the newspaper La Vanguardia ; In 1939 he also took over the management of this newspaper.

“En el sucro” is considered to be Mario Bravo's most important novel. He wrote to him for almost 25 years, discussing the life and suffering of a simple worker in the sugar mills. As a journalist and politician, Bravo always worked to improve the situation of ordinary workers; even his political opponents showed him respect.
