Mario Huemer

Mario Huemer (* 1970 in Wels , Austria ) is an Austrian mechatronics technician and university professor. He is Professor of Signal Processing at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz and heads the Institute for Signal Processing (Institute of Signal Processing - ISP).

Career

Mario Huemer was born in Wels, Austria, in 1970. After graduating from the HTL (Higher Technical College) Leonding, specializing in electronics and communications engineering, he studied mechatronics at the Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU). In 1996 he completed his diploma studies, in 1999 he obtained his doctorate in technical sciences at the JKU.

From 1997 to 2000 Mario Huemer was a university assistant at the Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology at the JKU. In the years 2000–2002 he was employed at DICE (Danube Integrated Circuits Engineering), a Linz subsidiary of Infineon Technologies, where he headed the R&D group "Wireless Products - Concept Engineering". From 2002 to 2004 Huemer was a lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences Hagenberg and from 2004 to 2007 Associate Professor for Technical Electronics at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg , Germany. In March 2007 he accepted the call to university professor at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt , where he established the chair for embedded systems and signal processing. There he was also dean of the Faculty of Technical Sciences (2012/13). Since September 2013, Mario Huemer has been University Professor for Signal Processing and Head of the Institute of Signal Processing (ISP) at the JKU.

Main focus of work and research

His main research interests are in the areas

  • Statistical and adaptive signal processing
  • Digital signal processing architectures
  • Mixed analog and digital signal processing systems with applications in information technology, message transmission and sensor signal processing as well as in integrated circuits such as RFICs (Radio Frequency Integrated Circuits), baseband chips for mobile communications and integrated power and battery management solutions for mobile applications.

Awards and nominations

  • Nomination for the Houska Prize 2013: The project Efficient cancellation of intermodulation noise in mobile communication transceiver chips was nominated among the best 10 out of 39 projects submitted
  • Kardinal-Innitzer-Förderungspreis 2010 in the field of natural sciences and technology
  • EEEfCOM Innovation Award 2010 together with Christian Hofbauer, Alexander Onic (University of Klagenfurt) and Prof. Dr. Johannes B. Huber (University of Erlangen-Nuremberg) for the joint development of the new digital information transmission method "Unique Word OFDM"
  • 2nd place EEEfCOM innovation award 2004, category companies (EEEfCOM: Electrical and Electronic Engineering for Communication), cooperation project Airbox ( Frequentis GmbH Vienna & University of Applied Sciences Hagenberg)
