History and Development

The FH Upper Austria was founded on June 22, 1993. This laid the cornerstone of the FH nature in Upper Austria. The state of Upper Austria, the city of Wels and the market town of Hagenberg were appointed as members of the sponsoring association for the preparation of the establishment, maintenance and operation of technical college courses in Upper Austria. The first supplementary course for technicians began in the same year. In 1994 the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria was able to welcome its first two courses, the first courses in "Automated Plant and Process Technology" (AAPT) in Wels and "Software Engineering" (SE) in Hagenberg. A year later, the first course “Production and Management” was opened in Steyr . At the same time, the city of Steyr was recognized as the fourth member of the sponsoring association. In 1996 the campus in Hagenberg presented its second course "Media Technology and Design". In 1998 Austria's first part-time and target group-specific organized FH degree course “Mechatronics Economy” was introduced in Wels.

In 2000 the Hagenberg campus opened a new faculty building. In 2001, the structure changed with the establishment of "FH OÖ Holding GmbH" (from 2003 FH OÖ Management GmbH) on February 6th and "FH OÖ Immobilien GmbH" on November 14th.

Preparations for the institutional evaluation in 2008 began in 2007. The main focus of the preparation was the structural and organizational networking of the four faculties and the organizational structure of the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences around the organizational units “ Dean ” and “Scientific Management”.
