history

The training courses in the health professions, which are now covered by the UAS Health Professions Upper Austria, were reserved for academies (e.g. medical-technical academies, midwifery academies, etc.) that were set up in hospitals due to the relevant professional regulations. In the course of the Bologna Process in 2005 the possibility was created by law to replace these academies with technical college courses. This should improve the international recognition of the degrees and enable the graduates to enter advanced master’s courses. In 2010, the three major hospital operators in Upper Austria decided to merge the existing academies and replace them with the Upper Austrian University of Applied Sciences.
