Mario Mirabella Roberti

Mario Mirabella Roberti (born March 1, 1909 in Venice , † November 11, 2002 in Milan ) was an Italian classical and Christian archaeologist .

Life

He grew up in Pola ( Istria ) and studied at the Università Cattolica in Milan, where he graduated in 1932. From 1935 to 1947 he was director of the Museo dell'Istria in Pola, where he carried out numerous excavations and was responsible for rescuing the works of art during the war. From 1947 he worked at the Soprintendenza in Trieste . From 1943 he taught at the University of Trieste , first classical archeology (1943–51), then Christian archeology (1951–73). From 1973 to 1979 he was Professor of Christian Archeology there. From 1953 to 1973 he was head of the monument protection authority in Milan (Soprintendente alle Antichità della Lombardia) .
