The Maris Nunatak is a small nunatak on the Ingrid Christensen coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth Land . It rises 3 km east-northeast of the Whisnant Nunatak at a confluence of the Rogers Glacier in the Amery Ice Shelf .
The American geographer John Hobbie Roscoe (1919-2007) mapped it in 1952 using aerial photographs of Operation Highjump (1946-1947). He named it after Roscoe Lewis Maris (1918-1952), who was involved in the Highjump reconnaissance flights to create aerial photographs between 14 ° and 164 ° east longitude.
