A marisquería is a restaurant in Spain or South or Central America in which mainly seafood ( Mariscos Spanish , seafood, shellfish ) is offered for consumption. Some older marisquerías also have an affiliated sales of seafood in a separate business area.

Characteristic

Marisquerías mostly have a good reputation as local fish restaurants. Less because of a particularly sophisticated kitchen than because of their commitment to high-quality and fresh goods.

In Vigo , Galicia , the world's largest Marisquería Marisqueria Bahia is located in the Rua da Pescaderia with 1,200 seats. Their excursions of special magnitudes are also noticeable on their menu: the "Carrusel de Mariscos" is a huge platter, depending on the season, overwhelmed with "centollas, percebes, vieiras, necoras, cigalas, langostinos, gambas, mejillones, berberechos, camarones" .

Typical dishes are e.g. B. zarzuela de marisco y pescado ( stew with seafood and fish), merluza al horno ( hake roasted in the oven) or atún rojo del Mediterráneo ( bluefin tuna ).

Many Marisquerías do without regular menus , let the guest choose the goods themselves from the refrigerated counter or showcase and also respond to preparation requests. Most of them are in coastal locations.

Others

In the biography of the Spanish top chef José Machado (* 1954), who comes from Galicia, emphasis is placed on the fact that he acquired his merits during his time as a cook in a marisquería in Madrid .
