The Maritim ClubHotel Timmendorfer Strand is located in Timmendorfer Strand and with a height of 101 meters is the second highest skyscraper in Schleswig-Holstein and one of the highest hotels in Germany after the Maritim Travemünde (119 meters) in Lübeck . The hotel of the Maritim Hotelgesellschaft has both an indoor and an outdoor pool (each 25 m × 12 m) as well as a nearby golf course. The name Maritim is said to be composed of "mare" for sea and "tim" for Timmendorfer Strand, where the first hotel (Maritim Seehotel) was built in 1969 and was the basis for the success of the Maritim hotel company. The client and founder of the hotel company was Hans-Joachim Gommolla, inventor of the conference hotel.
